Tamiya Mini 4WD motors guide: Tuned vs Dash, single-shaft vs PRO item numbers

By Aizad · 3 Nov 2026 · 3 min read

Tamiya's upgrade motors split into two families (Tuned and Dash) and two shaft types (single-shaft and double-shaft PRO). Picking the wrong shaft means the motor physically cannot go into your car; picking too much motor for the track layout sends the car over the fence at the first jump.

Single-shaft vs PRO: match your chassis first

  • Single-shaft motors have a pinion shaft on one end. They fit front-motor and rear-motor chassis such as FM-A on Mach Frame (18714) and Super-II on Victory Magnum (19434).
  • PRO motors have a shaft sticking out of both ends. They only fit mid-motor MS and MA cars such as Blast Arrow (18635).

The Tuned line: metal brushes, longer life, calmer jumps

Tuned motors sit one step above the kit FA-130 normal motor. They use metal brushes and draw less current than Dash motors, which keeps speeds consistent over a full run.

Motor tierSingle-shaft itemDouble-shaft PRO itemCharacter on track
Torque-Tuned 215484 (¥462 / RM14)15487 (RM13.30)Strong acceleration out of corners and up slopes
Atomic-Tuned 215486 (¥462 / RM14)15489 (RM13.30)Balanced middle ground between torque and top speed
Rev-Tuned 215485 (¥462 / RM13.90)15488 (RM13.30)Higher RPM for flat, flowing layouts with fewer climbs

If you are building your first B-MAX car, start with Torque-Tuned 2 (15484 or 15487) or Atomic-Tuned 2 (15486 or 15489). You can clear jumps with less brake sponge, and the car stays predictable while you dial in your rollers and dampers.

The Dash line: higher RPM and carbon/silver brushes

Dash motors step up in RPM and current draw. Above Light-Dash, they use carbon-blend brushes that wear in faster, run hotter and demand firm brake and damper setups on B-MAX tracks.

Notice that single-shaft and PRO do not share the top two slots: single-shaft racers split between Power-Dash (15317) and Sprint-Dash (15318), while MS and MA racers step up from Hyper-Dash PRO (15375) to Mach-Dash PRO (15433).

What B-MAX rules allow

B-MAX follows Tamiya's official race motor list: both the Tuned 2 trio and the Dash motors above are legal on their matching chassis, provided the motor can is never opened or modified. Ultra-Dash (15307) and Plasma-Dash (15186) are not legal in Tamiya official races or B-MAX.
